Emery enchanted by Valencia's tyros

Unai Emery hailed the impact of Tino Costa and the rest of Valencia CF's bright young things after watching from the stands – where he was confined through suspension – as the Spanish side swept UEFA Champions League debutants Bursaspor aside 4-0. The Turkish titleholders, Ertuğrul Sağlam concedes, have a lot to learn.

I would like to thank our supporters for their magnificent backing – we'll do our best to make them happy. We were competitive but their quality was tough to deal with. The first goal was spectacular but our midfielders weren't fast enough to close him down.

In the second half we went chasing goals but that was difficult against such a good team. The changes after the break were a bit of a gamble to alter the dynamic of the match but it wasn't to be. We conceded a third and it was game over. I'm sure that over the course of the group we'll learn from our experiences.

This is our first step; the intention is to complete an excellent group stage. We must be prudent and look to continue along the same path in the league and Champions League. What made me happiest about tonight was seeing players who haven't long played for us adapting so quickly to the team's style and playing so well.

Games like this will help a player like Tino Costa fit in more quickly. We played a good all-round game against a Bursaspor side showing a lot more respect than I thought they would. [From the stands] you see the game from another perspective and remain calmer. The team matured a lot out on the pitch.
