Robinho heads list of deadline-day moves

Transfer deadline day was a busy one for many of the 32 clubs in the UEFA Champions League group stage as UEFA.com recaps.

AC Milan have signed Brazil striker Robinho from Manchester City FC for €18m on a four-year contract. The 26-year-old, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Santos FC, has scored 25 goals in 79 games for Brazil and played for Real Madrid CF between 2005 and 2008.

Panathinaikos FC have increased their midfield options with the acquisition of Liverpool FC's Damien Plessis for an undisclosed fee. The 22-year old has put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the Greens, who yesterday signed free agent Luís García. Plessis, a former member of the youth setup at Olympique Lyonnais, is the third French player to join the Athens club this summer following the arrivals of Sydney Govou and Jean-Alain Boumsong.

Richard Foster has moved from Aberdeen FC to Scottish Premier League rivals Rangers FC on loan until the end of the campaign, with striker Andrius Velička going the other way. The 25-year-old defender said: "It has all happened very quickly. I was very surprised by the way things have gone and I’m very excited by it."

The versatile Finnish international Teemu Tainio has joined AFC Ajax on a free transfer from Sunderland AFC. The 30-year-old former FC Haka, AJ Auxerre and Tottenham Hotspur FC player has penned a one-year contract. "I'm glad we were able to strengthen on the final day," said Martin Jol, the Ajax coach. "I worked with Teemu at Tottenham Hotspur and have followed him ever since."

FC Schalke 04 have bolstered their squad with three players: Netherlands striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Spanish midfielder José Manuel Jurado and French defender Nico Plestan. Huntelaar, 27, arrives from Milan for a reported €14m and will be reunited with former Real Madrid CF strike partner Raúl González. Former Spanish Under-21 international Jurado, 24, signs from Club Atlético de Madrid having bowed out with a goal against Real Sporting de Gijón on Monday and also played in last week's UEFA Super Cup defeat of FC Internazionale Milano. Plestan, 28, is the first French player to join Schalke and has signed a contract until June 2013 after leaving LOSC Lille Métropole.

Another forward leaving Milan is Marco Borriello, loaned to fellow group-stage contenders AS Roma for the rest of the season, with an option to make the move permanent next summer. The 28-year-old, capped five times by Italy, scored 14 goals in 29 Serie A games last term.

FC Shakhtar Donetsk academy product Vitaliy Vitsenets has rejoined the club after an eight-month spell at FC Zorya Luhansk, while they have also added Brazilian youth international Bruno Renan from Villarreal CF. The 20-year-old Vitsenets, who helped Ukraine win the 2009 UEFA European Under-19 Championship, had a long-term contract with Zorya but is now back at the Ukrainian titleholders on terms running until 2015. Defensive midfielder Renan, 19, has agreed a five-year deal.

SC Braga have agreed a three-year deal with defensive midfielder Custódio Castro, who has arrived after cancelling his contract with Vitória SC by mutual consent. The 27-year-old former Sporting Clube de Portugal and FC Dynamo Moskva player makes the short journey to Braga and said: "Braga are a great club with a top-class squad and structure, and I'll be another one to try and help them reach their objectives."

Tottenham have signed Croatia goalkeeper Stipe Pletikosa from fellow UEFA Champions League contenders FC Spartak Moskva on a one-year loan with the option for Spurs to buy out his contract next summer. The 31-year-old former HNK Hajduk Split and FC Shakhtar Donetsk player joined Spartak in 2007 but lost his starting place when Valeri Karpin became coach in April 2009. With experience at the 2002 FIFA World Cup, UEFA EURO 2004 and UEFA EURO 2008, Pletikosa has been on trial with Spurs and could make his debut against West Bromwich Albion FC on 11 September as Heurelho Gomes has a groin injury.

Lyon have brought in Senegal centre-half Pape Diakhaté on a season-long loan from FC Dynamo Kyiv. The 26-year-old had been at AS Saint-Etienne since January on another temporary arrangement, but now switches to local rivals Lyon. "There is no better choice for me," Diakhaté said. "This side is involved in the Champions League which will help me improve. I know the players as I've played against them, especially Bafétimbi Gomis – we holidayed together in Senegal this summer."

Lyon's domestic rivals AJ Auxerre, meanwhile, delved into Ligue 2 to sign Vannes OC forward Frédéric Sammaritano for an undisclosed fee. The 24-year-old has committed to a three-year deal at the Stade de l'Abbé-Deschamps.

Salim Toama has rejoined Hapoel Tel-Aviv FC on a two-year contract following spells abroad with R. Standard de Liège and latterly Greek side Larissa FC. "I am delighted to be back at Hapoel," said the 31-year-old Israel midfielder, who has been handed his old No15 shirt. "I am coming home to the amazing Hapoel fans and now I have to work hard to justify my move." Joining Toama at Hapoel is Beitar Jerusalem FC striker Toto Tamuz. Israeli international Tamuz, 22, has agreed a three-year deal and said: "I am delighted to be joining a massive club and play under Eli Gutman."

FC København have brought forward their signing of Denmark Under-21 striker Søren Frederiksen from Superliga rivals SønderjyskE following an injury to Morten Nordstrand. Frederiksen had agreed a three-year FCK deal in June but at the time was loaned back to SønderjyskE for the 2010/11 season, an arrangement now cancelled. FCK sports director Carsten V Jensen said: "It is no secret that we expected to be able to make use of Morten Nordstrand in the coming season. However, it is uncertain when 'Nord' will be fit, and therefore Søren Frederiksen joins us with immediate effect."
