UEFA Champions League play-off hopefuls SV Werder Bremen have signed Brazilian midfielder Wesley from Santos FC.
Having sold their German international playmaker Mesut Özil to Real Madrid CF earlier this week, the Bundesliga club have brought in the 23-year-old as a replacement on a contract until 2014. General manager Klaus Allofs said Wesley is "a very versatile and dynamic player, who will certainly boost our squad", adding: "He can play any position in midfield."
Wesley himself explained: "It was my dream to play in a big league for a big club, so of course I am very happy things worked out with Werder Bremen. I want to get into the team as quickly as possible and hope to make the fans happy." Bremen are 3-1 up following the home leg of their play-off tie against UC Sampdoria, which concludes on Tuesday.
