Portuguese champions SL Benfica have confirmed the signing of Spain Under-19 forward Rodrigo on a five-year contract from Real Madrid CF.

The 19-year-old travelled to Lisbon at the start of this week and was officially presented in Lisbon today, after Benfica agreed an undisclosed transfer fee with Madrid. The Brazil-born teenager, who never played in the Merengues' first team, scored Spain's goal in their UEFA European Under-19 Championship final defeat by France seven days ago.

Speaking about the transfer, Rodrigo, who made a big impact in the youth teams at the Santiago Bernabéu, said: "It's a great moment to be joining such a big club. I am very happy with the club as they have high hopes in me and I am looking forward to meeting those expectations. I hope I can show my value on the pitch."
