Less than a week after signing Raúl González, UEFA Champions League group stage entrants FC Schalke 04 have brought in another Spaniard in the shape of Real Murcia CF's Sergio Escudero.
The left-back has agreed a four-year contract at Schalke after moving for an undisclosed fee. "I am looking forward to the Bundesliga and want to establish myself quickly at my new club," the 20-year-old said. "The decisive factor in the transfer, apart from the attractive proposition of the club themselves, was the big interest they showed in me."
Escudero made his first-team debut for second-tier Murcia in June 2009 and started 17 matches last term. He becomes Schalke's seventh summer signing following the arrivals of Raúl, Erik Jendrišek, Tim Hoogland, Christoph Metzelder, Kyriakos Papadopoulos and Atsuto Uchida. The UEFA Champions League group-stage draw takes place in Monaco on 26 August.
