• S.S. Lazio are held at ACF Fiorentina in the penultimate round of Serie A fixtures, ultimately allowing an in-form AC Milan side who had been seven points adrift in mid-April to take the Scudetto by a single point.
• Lazio take some solace by beating RCD Mallorca 2-1 in the last ever UEFA Cup Winners' Cup final, Pavel Nedvěd scoring the winner nine minutes from time. Domestic rivals Parma FC capture the UEFA Cup.
• Rangers FC capture their 48th Scottish Premier League title but, remarkably, their first at the home of their greatest rivals as two Neil McCann goals set up a 3-0 victory against nine-man Celtic FC.
• After being relegated to England's third tier for the first time Manchester City FC bounce back at the first attempt, coming from two down to draw with Gillingham FC before winning the play-off final 3-1 on penalties.
