Nigerian international striker Obafemi Martins has signed for UEFA Champions League contenders FC Rubin Kazan after just a season with VfL Wolfsburg.
Martins played 16 Bundesliga games for Wolfsburg, scoring six goals, and has now moved to Russian titleholders Rubin on a three-year deal. The 25-year-old former FC Internazionale Milano forward featured twice in his country's FIFA World Cup campaign but now has his sights set on the next phase of his club career.
"This is a new stage, a new start in a new country, which is a big challenge for me," Martins, who scored against Rubin in last term's UEFA Europa League round of 16, told the BBC. "I would like to thank Wolfsburg fans and my former team-mates and wish the club all the best in the future. I am joining a team of champions and I hope to do everything to help them become even greater." Rubin will enter the UEFA Champions League group stage after winning their second successive Russian Premier League title last season.
