Real Madrid CF have announced that they have reached agreement with SL Benfica over the signing of Argentina winger Ángel di María on a six-year contract.
Di María, who has featured in all four of his country's FIFA World Cup games so far, moves to the Santiago Bernabéu in a deal worth an initial €25m, with additional payments relating to performance and matches played potentially adding another €11m to the transfer price.
The versatile 22-year-old forward, who has won the FIFA U-20 World Cup and the Olympic Games with Argentina, arrived in Portugal from CA Rosario Central in 2007 and scored seven times in 76 league games for Benfica. He becomes José Mourinho's first signing at Madrid since he replaced Manuel Pellegrini as coach. Pellegrini took the capital club to second place in last term's Liga and they will therefore now play in the group stage of the 2010/11 UEFA Champions League.
