Bursaspor captain Ömer Erdogan spoke of his desire to lead Turkey's UEFA Champions League challenge after signing a two-year contract extension with the Süper Lig holders.

"I've been here for four years and it'll be an honour to play for Bursaspor for two more," said the 33-year-old defender, who last month became the first man in the club's history to lift the league trophy. "We had a fine season and now all the players are looking forward to the new one where we'll represent Turkey in the UEFA Champions League. I decided to extend my stay because I can feel the love of the community here. I have had the most successful time of my career at Bursaspor."

The German-born Erdogan has built up a formidable reputation since joining the Bursa outfit from Malatyaspor four years ago. A combative central defender, he also contributed six league goals last season as the unfancied side shocked the Istanbul elite to claim only their second major title following the 1986 Turkish Cup. Their reward is a place in this autumn's UEFA Champions League group stage.
