UEFA Champions League hopefuls AJ Auxerre have signed striker Anthony Le Tallec from relegated Le Mans UC 72 to fill the void left by Romanian forward Daniel Niculae's departure to AS Monaco FC.
The former French Under-21 international, 25, has agreed a four-year contract with Auxerre after switching for an undisclosed fee and started training with his new team-mates this morning. Simultaneously, Auxerre's Ghanaian midfielder Moussa Narry has joined Le Mans on a permanent basis having spent the last six months on loan with the Maine club.
Le Tallec, a 2001 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner who spent seven seasons on Liverpool FC's books, scored eight goals in 36 Ligue 1 games last term but Le Mans could not avoid relegation. Auxerre finished a surprising third to earn a place in the UEFA Champions League play-offs on 17/18 and 24/25 August, with the draw for that round to be staged on 6 August.
