AC Milan have taken goalkeeper Marco Amelia on a season's loan from Genoa CFC with an option to make the deal permanent following the expiry of Dida's contract and the sale of Marco Storari to Juventus.
Amelia, 28, joins a team assured of a UEFA Champions League group berth. The former AS Roma trainee joined Genoa last summer from US Città di Palermo, having previously spent seven years at AS Livorno Calcio, from where Amelia was loaned to US Lecce and Parma FC. While with Livorno he headed an added-time equaliser at FK Partizan in the 2006/07 UEFA Cup group stage.
A UEFA European Under-21 Championship winner and Olympic bronze-medallist with Italy in 2004, he has been capped nine times at senior level and was the third-choice goalkeeper in the World Cup triumph four years ago. Amelia will compete with Christian Abbiati to be Milan's starting keeper next season.
