Lyon wary of Bordeaux backlash

Past experience has taught Olympique Lyonnais to take nothing for granted in the UEFA Champions League, and nobody was getting carried away with the celebrations in the home dressing room despite an excellent 3-1 first-leg win over FC Girondins de Bordeaux.

This is the fourth year Les Gones have reached the last eight of Europe's elite club competition since 2004, but they have never been so well placed to progress as they are today. Yet the slender eliminations at the hands of FC Porto, PSV Eindhoven and AC Milan remain fresh in the memory of Lyon fans and players, including Anthony Réveillère who featured in all of their quarter-final exits.

The experienced right-back knows there remains plenty to do if Claude Puel's men are to qualify for the semi-finals for the first time. "There is still a big match waiting for us over there," the 30-year-old told UEFA.com. "We're not safe. You're never safe when you play a team of Bordeaux's quality. They scored an away goal with a header from [Marouane] Chamakh and they played good football, but we managed to score three. That isn't bad. Now we need to use our experience to get the result over there."

Michel Bastos, who struck OL's second with a brilliant left-footed effort, was also quick to express caution ahead of the 7 April return game. "We'll have to play the same way in the second leg," the Brazilian international stressed. "That means using the ball well when we have it and defending all together when we don't. Bordeaux have a lot of quality and they created a lot of chances. We'll probably have to defend even more over there."

The seven-time French champions will travel to Stade Chaban Delmas without their talismanic striker Lisandro and winger Sidney Govou, both of whom are suspended. Lisandro has already stamped his mark on the tie, however, scoring the opening goal inside ten minutes before adding a penalty 13 minutes from time.

The scoreline was nevertheless hard on Les Girondins, who struck the crossbar through Wendel just before conceding the third and forced Hugo Lloris into a series of superb saves. Lyon midfielder Kim Källström admitted the outcome could have been very different, saying: "Games like this can go either way. Of course, if they had scored instead of hitting the bar we wouldn't be so happy. At this level you have to take your chances to win games. We were efficient in front of goal and I think we deserved it overall."
