Winger Nani has signed a new four-year contract with Manchester United FC, committing himself to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finalists until June 2014.

The 23-year-old, recruited from Sporting Clube de Portugal in 2007, has been rewarded for his improved performances this season, with manager Sir Alex Ferguson saying: "Nani is an emerging talent within the team and has developed tremendously since joining the club. We are delighted he has signed a new contract and I am sure he will have a long and successful future at Manchester United."

The 34-times Portuguese international, whose original deal had two years left to run, added: "The coaching staff have taught me so much about the game and I'm playing alongside some of the best players in the world. I'm looking forward to winning many more trophies with this team." Nani has scored five goals in 55 top-flight games for the Premier League titleholders. United's last-eight meeting with FC Bayern München kicks off in Munich on Tuesday.
