Manchester United FC defender Wes Brown has been ruled out for between four to six weeks with a foot injury.

The 30-year-old England international was taken off at half-time of Saturday's 1-0 win at Woverhampton Wanderer FC and will now miss Wednesday's UEFA Champions League first knockout round second leg against AC Milan on Wednesday.

"Unfortunately he has had a career that's been blighted by injuries, long-term injuries, and he's got another one and will be out for four to six weeks," United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said. "I hope to get him back for some of the season. He has a broken bone in his foot."

On a more positive note for United, Wayne Rooney participated in training on Tuesday morning and is expected to play. "He is fit, I'm glad to say that," Sir Alex said of the 24-year-old, who had been struggling with a knee injury. "He's showed a rapid improvement from Saturday morning, he was extremely doubtful, but now he's OK."

Ryan Giggs trained apart from the squad as he continues his recovery from a broken arm, while Michael Carrick is suspended. United lead the tie after a 3-2 win at San Siro on 16 February.
