Quarter-final, semi-final draws scheduled

The draws for the quarter-finals and semi-finals of the 2009/10 UEFA club competitions will take place on Friday 19 March at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.

The UEFA Champions League draw will be made at 12.00CET and will be conducted by UEFA general secretary Gianni Infantino together with the ambassador for the Madrid final, Emilio Butragueño. The UEFA Europa League draw will follow at 13.00CET, being carried out by UEFA competitions director Giorgio Marchetti and Hamburg final ambassador Uwe Seeler.

The eight winners of the UEFA Champions League first knockout round ties will go into the quarter–finals, with the pairings determined by an open draw. At this stage of the tournament, no teams are seeded and clubs from the same national association can be drawn against each other. The quarter-finals are played on a home-and–away basis, with the first legs scheduled for Tuesday 30 and Wednesday 31 March and the return matches the following week, on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 April.

The four victorious teams will, at this point, know their semi-final opponent, as these pairings will also be decided during the 19 March draw ceremony. The first legs of the semi-finals will be contested two weeks after the quarter-finals, on Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 April, with the second legs staged on Tuesday 27 April and Wednesday 28 April.

An additional draw on 19 March will define whether the winner of semi-final 1 or the winner of semi-final 2 will be considered, for administrative purposes, the home side in the final, which looms on Saturday 22 May at Madrid's Santiago Bernabéu stadium (20.45CET kick-off).

A similar procedure will apply to the draw for the quarter-finals and semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League. The last-eight games will be held on 1 and 8 April, with the semi-finals on 22 and 29 April. This season's final will be hosted by the Hamburg Arena in the northern German city on Wednesday 12 May (20.45CET kick-off).

A sound system will be installed for ENG crews but no extra facilities such as telephone or ISDN lines will be available inside the draw hall and there are no special facilities for radio stations or websites. Due to interference problems, it is recommended that sound engineers do not use the following frequencies in the House of European Football: 783.875 MHz, 786.125 MHz, 782.500 MHz, 782.875 MHz, 784.625 MHz, 785.250 MHz, 792.500 MHz and 794.875 MHz.
