FC Barcelona have retained the services of central defender Gerard Piqué for a further three years after the 23-year-old penned a new deal committing him to the European champions until 2015.
The former Manchester United FC player's previous contract was due to expire in 2012 but he was "really happy" to tie his future to the Camp Nou club, who have inserted a reported €200m release clause into the new agreement.
"It looks like I'll be staying here for many years to come, which is great," said Pique, who started his career in the Barcelona academy before moving to Old Trafford and then returning to Catalonia in 2008. "I want to continue winning trophies because the feeling it gives you makes you want to do it again."
Barça coach Josep Guardiola added of the 13-times Spanish international: "I don't think there is a better player in Europe for his age. He's highly competitive and very ambitious."
