Sevilla FC have suffered a major injury setback ahead of their UEFA Champions League encounter with Rangers FC with news that striker Luis Fabiano will sit out the remainder of the year with a right ankle sprain.

Injuries mounting

The 29-year-old brought his goalscoring tally up to 16 in 22 games for club and country this season when he scored in the 1-1 weekend draw with Real Valladolid CF. However, the Brazilian international ended the Liga game feeling pain in his right foot and subsequent tests revealed he would be out of action for up to three weeks. Meanwhile, Sébastien Squillaci is also a doubt for Wednesday's Group G match at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán after the French international complained of discomfort in his left ankle. Fellow defender Sergio Sánchez was another to skip his team's training session on Monday having fallen victim to flu.

Better news
On a brighter note for Los Rojiblancos, midfielder Adriano completed Monday's workout after recovering from abdominal problems while Frédéric Kanouté also participated despite missing Saturday's league fixture with an elbow problem. Leaders of their UEFA Champions League section, Sevilla will advance to the first knockout round as group winners should they gain at least a point against a Rangers side already assured a fourth placed-finish.
