Italian striker Federico Macheda has signed a new four-year contract with Manchester United FC, tying him to the English champions until 2014.
Debut goal
The 18-year-old burst on to the scene towards the end of last season when he scored an added-time winner against Aston Villa FC on his United debut in the Premier League on 5 April. He followed that up with another crucial strike against AFC Sunderland the following week and has since forced his way into the Italy Under-21 side.
'Fantastic talent'
Though his appearances have been restricted this term, the former S.S. Lazio youth player has twice featured in the UEFA Champions League and his manager Sir Alex Ferguson is delighted with his progress. "Everyone at the club recognises the fantastic talent he has and we hope to see that develop in the next years," Sir Alex said. Macheda added: "I am very happy to commit my future to Manchester United. I really enjoyed myself last season when I came on and I hope to get more chances like that and contribute to the team's success."
