Debreceni VSC, FC Rubin Kazan, FC Unirea Urziceni, AZ Alkmaar and APOEL FC are all gearing up for first group-stage home games, but the Matchday 2 highlight sees four-time European champions FC Bayern München take on Juventus, winners in 1985 and 1996.

Home comforts
The opening day provided a rude awakening for the UEFA Champions League newcomers, the eight sides picking up just four points between them courtesy of a home win for VfL Wolfsburg and APOEL FC's 0-0 draw at Club Atlético de Madrid. A better haul might be expected this time around, with five of them on home turf. On Tuesday Debrecen host Olympique Lyonnais, FC Internazionale Milano are Rubin's first visitors, Unirea take on VfB Stuttgart, while the champions of the Netherlands and Belgium meet as R. Standard de Liège travel to AZ Alkmaar.

Van Gaal mission
Wednesday, meanwhile, offers plucky APOEL the chance to aim their slingshots at another footballing Goliath, Chelsea FC, on a night that sees Bayern take on Juventus in Group D. In 1996 Louis van Gaal endured rare disappointment when his AFC Ajax team lost the UEFA Champions League final on penalties to La Vecchia Signora, the Turin side with Ciro Ferrara, now Juve coach, at centre-back that day. Van Gaal will be able to enact some measure of revenge as his current charges look to build on their impressive recent form against the Italian giants in Munich.

Glasgow greatness
Past glories may be on Sevilla FC's minds on Tuesday as they return to Glasgow – scene of their second successive UEFA Cup triumph in 2007 – to take on a Rangers FC side looking for their first win at home against Spanish opposition in two decades. Sevilla's coach against RCD Espanyol at Hampden Park, Juande Ramos, will have more reason to remember his old club on Wednesday as his new charges, PFC CSKA Moskva, take on Beşiktaş JK. Ramos's Sevilla beat the Turkish champions 3-0 in the 2005/06 UEFA Cup group stage en route to their first European trophy.
