New arrivals
Caicedo, who scored eleven goals in 44 league appearances for FC Basel 1893 prior to joining the English club in January 2008, faced competition for a starting berth from new signings Emmanuel Adebayor, Carlos Tévez and Roque Santa Cruz had he remained at Eastlands. The 20-year-old is the second forward to leave the club on loan this summer following Jô's move to Everton FC. Sporting face FC Twente in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League on 29 July and 4 August.
