Arsenal FC received a boost ahead of the new season with the announcement that striker Robin van Persie has signed a fresh long-term contract.

'So happy'
The 25-year-old Dutch international has scored 39 league goals in 115 appearances for the Gunners since joining from Feyenoord in 2004 and said: "I'm so happy. We have a top-class manager, a squad full of superb young players, a world-class stadium and brilliant supporters. My heart is with Arsenal and I just can't picture myself in a different shirt." Arsenal, who start their UEFA Champions League campaign in the play-off round next month, have not disclosed full details of Van Persie's new deal.
