FC Barcelona's UEFA Champions League-winning goalkeeper Víctor Valdés had further reason to celebrate today after signing a four-year contract extension tying him to the club until June 2014.

Winning habit
Barça's No1 since the 2003/04 season, the 27-year-old said: "It's a dream come true to know I can now [retire from playing] at this club. The most important thing for me is that I can spend more years here with my team-mates trying to achieve great things just like we did last season." It was a year when Valdés picked up his third Liga winners' medal while adding a second European crown and the Zamora trophy (awarded to Spanish football's best keeper) to an impressive list of achievements at Camp Nou.

Record chaser
With 225 Liga games under his belt, Valdés will now be aiming to surpass Salvador Sadurní (247), Antonio Ramallets (288) and Andoni Zubizarreta (301) as the Barcelona goalkeeper with the most league appearances. "It's fantastic to be able to continue here at the club I love," he concluded.
