French titleholders FC Girondins de Bordeaux have confirmed the signing of Toulouse FC's goalkeeper Cédric Carrasso on a four-year deal after the clubs agreed an undisclosed fee.
Revival
The rejuvenated 27-year-old has linked up with Laurent Blanc's side and will provide competition for veteran Ulrich Ramé, Bordeaux's sole survivor from their previous Ligue 1 title-winning team of 1998/99. It marks the latest high in a career that had appeared to be floundering for Carrasso after an injury-ravaged 2007/08 campaign. He swapped Olympique de Marseille for Toulouse last summer and missed just one league game all season, his consistent performances earning him a maiden international call-up. Bordeaux will enter the UEFA Champions League group stage.
Paillot switch
Another keeper, Kévin Olimpa, has also signed fresh terms with Les Girondins, the 21-year-old extending his contract by 24 months to June 2012. He has been loaned to Ligue 2's Angers SCO for the season. Defender Sandy Paillot made a similar move from Olympique Lyonnais to Grenoble Foot 38 two years ago, in his first term helping the side reach the top flight and in his second playing a part as they ensured they stayed there. The 22-year-old has today made the move permanent for an undisclosed fee, signing a four-year contract.
