'A winner'
The 24-year-old England international has put pen to paper on a four-year deal at Anfield and manager Rafael Benítez told Liverpool's official website: "Johnson is a very good player who will improve the team. He is also English and that is important for the Champions League. His mentality is really good. He is a winner. I was impressed with the conversations I had with him."
Move north
Johnson started his career at West Ham United FC although he only made 15 league appearances for the club before moving to Chelsea FC. He spent three seasons in west London picking up a Premier League winners' medal and a League Cup triumph before spending the last two seasons at Portsmouth, where he won the FA Cup in 2008. Johnson has been capped 15 times by England. Liverpool will enter the 2009/10 UEFA Champions League in the group stage.
