Nesmachniy demands three points from Dynamo

A point would be enough for FC Dynamo Kyiv to finish third in Group G and earn a place in the UEFA Cup Round of 32 at the expense of opponents Fenerbahçe SK, but Andriy Nesmachniy insists none of his team-mates "dares even think about a draw".

Different approach
Dynamo coach Yuri Semin has said he would be satisfied with any result provided his side earn the parachute into the UEFA Cup, but captain Nesmachniy has a different view. "We all want to win, because experience shows that if you play for a draw you normally lose," said the 29-year-old defender. "Besides, we want to end the season on a high in front of our fans. We will play to our strengths – our style, ball control and commitment – and with our supporters that should be everything we need to get into the UEFA Cup."

'Backbone'
The teams drew 0-0 in Istanbul on Matchday 2 and Nesmachniy anticipates Dynamo's defence of their three-point advantage over the bottom-placed Turkish outfit being nothing if not difficult. "Fenerbahçe are a good team with quality players like Emre [Belözoğlu], [Daniel] Güiza, Roberto Carlos and Alex," the Ukrainian international warned. "These guys are the backbone of the team and help dictate their play."

Lesson learned
Dynamo might have been targeting greater rewards but for late goals dealing them back-to-back defeats by FC Porto and Arsenal FC in the last two Matchdays. Semin rued his charges' lack of European experience and Nesmachniy agrees that next season the Ukraine Premier League leaders could be a different proposition. "The most important lesson we have learned is that the match lasts until the referee blows his whistle," he said. "It is the most painful thing to lose in the dying minutes, when you have expended all your energy and emotions. You have to play until the very end."

Last chance
Fenerbahçe forward Güiza won UEFA EURO 2008™ with Spain and has since scored twice in his first-ever UEFA Champions League campaign. He is keen to extend his involvement in continental competition into the new year too, especially with the UEFA Cup final being held at Fenerbahçe's Sükrü Saraçoglu Stadium. "We realise it's our last chance to get into the UEFA Cup and we will give it our all," said the 28-year-old. "There is no sense looking for excuses, be it the cold weather or something else. We will try to put everything aside, including our recent run of poor results, in order to go there and win."
