Olympique de Marseille will be without Mamadou Niang for up to six weeks after the Senegalese striker factured a bone in the big toe on his right foot during his side's 2-1 win at home to OGC Nice on Saturday.
'Clean fracture'
The injury rules the 29-year-old out of the visit of Club Atlético de Madrid in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday. Niang, who has scored six times this season, was replaced on 59 minutes by Mamadou Samassa after colliding with Cédric Kant while attempting a bicycle kick. "It's a clean fracture which will not require surgery," said OM doctor Christophe Baudot, who added that the player is expected to be out for "four to six weeks". Marseille, who climbed to second in Ligue 1 following Saturday's win, host Atlético needing victory to clinch third spot in Group D and a place in the UEFA Cup. Niang will also miss the Ligue 1 clash with leaders Olympique Lyonnais next Sunday.
