Viola pay for naivety, says Prandelli

ACF Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli bemoaned his side's naivety after they let slip a 1-0 lead late on to draw with FC Bayern München, whose coach Jürgen Klinsmann singled out goalkeeper Michael Rensing for praise.

ACF Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli bemoaned his side's naivety after they let slip a 1-0 lead with 12 minutes to play to draw 1-1 with FC Bayern München. It is a result that is likely to cost the Viola a place in the knockout rounds and one that leaves Bayern on the verge of qualifying, much to the delight of their coach Jürgen Klinsmann who singled out goalkeeper Michael Rensing for special mention.

Cesare Prandelli, Fiorentina coach
We were naïve, unlucky and unorganised in the final stages of the game. We should have defended differently when we were leading with just a few minutes remaining, but that happens because we lack experience at this level. It's a pity because we played very well otherwise. We didn't manage to score the second when we could have, but I think we're moving in the right direction. We wasted a lot of energy in the first part of the game and we should have been more organised at the end when we were tired. Bayern are a great side and whenever you face a great side you need to force them to run. We managed to do it for 70 minutes. I don't know about our chances of qualifying but entering the pitch with the same spirit as we showed today is what will count the most. At this level you have to accept you can play a great game without winning. We have a lot of young players and games like this will help them grow. I hope we will finish the group stage strongly.

Jürgen Klinsmann, Bayern coach
We're happy to leave Florence with a point. Fiorentina gave everything. We knew it would be very difficult, but in the second half we managed to raise our tempo and created several scoring opportunities. In the latter stages of the game we could also have won, but I believe the draw is a fair result. It's an important point because it keeps a distance between Fiorentina and ourselves. We can earn the points we need to qualify in the next two games. Michael Rensing has been criticised recently but we have always been happy with him and today he played a great game. We're not surprised at all by his performance.
