Semin targets progress for Dynamo

Having ended a winless streak in the UEFA Champions League stretching back four years by defeating FC Porto 1-0, coach Yuri Semin reiterated FC Dynamo Kyiv's desire "to qualify and not just to finish third" in Group G.

It was a game of two halves. In the first we were very good offensively and had enough quality not to go in 1-0 down. Dynamo scored from their only shot on goal while we weren't able to convert three or four good chances. We knew it wasn't going to be easy to beat a team which came here primarily to defend, playing almost like this was a two-legged tie. They were even more defensive in the second half and at a certain point my team lost some of their balance. A goal would have changed everything but it wasn't to be. Now we must win in Kiev and at Fenerbahçe in order to qualify. I want to stress that my players worked very hard to achieve a positive result from this match and that they deserve my praise.

Yuri Semin, Dynamo Kyiv coach
We're very happy with this result because Dynamo were without a win in this competition for a long time, and because I think this is the club's first victory in Portugal. After we scored our goal we had problems containing our opponents. We didn't attack that much because we needed to play with caution. Porto played very well but we managed to hang on and win. They have very good players with excellent technique on the ball but each and every one of my players excelled, especially the goalkeeper. We still have two home matches, and our objective is obviously to qualify and not just to finish third in the group.
