Juventus endured a bad news day on Monday with the announcement that striker David Trezeguet may be out for five months after knee surgery eclipsing the question mark against goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon's fitness.
Injured tendon
It is now confirmed that Trezeguet faces between three and five months on the sidelines once he undergoes knee surgery on Tuesday. The 30-year-old French international damaged the patellar tendon in his right knee during Juventus's UEFA Champions League win against FC Zenit St. Petersburg on 17 September. It is the recurrence of an old injury for Trezeguet who has likely played his last game of 2008. He had seen only four minutes of Serie A action this season because of swelling in the knee.
'Ten days'
Buffon's problems are minor in comparison although the No1 must recover quickly from a thigh injury if he is to make Juventus's next date in the UEFA Champions League – the Group H trip to FC BATE Borisov of Belarus on 30 September. The 30-year-old hurt his right thigh during the first half of Sunday's victory at Cagliari Calcio, having to be substituted at half-time. The Turin club said his rehabilitation "would usually take about ten days". Such a prognosis excludes the Italy keeper from the Bianconeri's league games against Calcio Catania and UC Sampdoria as well as from the BATE match.
