There was no doubt which of the two coaches was the happiest as Olympique Lyonnais fought back from 2-0 down to salavage a point at home to ACF Fiorentina in their first game in UEFA Champions League Group F. Lyon's Claude Puel said the comeback was "a very strong performance" while his opposite number Cesare Prandelli admitted his side lost confidence after the French champions pulled one back with 17 minutes left.
Claude Puel, Lyon coach
In the future we will try not to scare ourselves that much. Obviously we made a good start but the first goal made us lose our rhythm completely. We have some quality players in our defence whoever is chosen. When you conceded a goal, there is always a collective responsibility; it's not down to just one player. But when we put four or five passes together we felt we were able to create chances. We had a bad half and a good half. We'll stay positive and say that making this sort of comeback in a Champions League game is a very strong performance. It shows our team have character. We'll see at the end of the competition if it was a good point or a bad point, but when you look at the way this game went, it's not that bad.
Cesare Prandelli, Fiorentina coach
It was a good game. We played against a very strong team that could go far in the competition, maybe even win it. After conceding the first goal we totally lost confidence. After the first goal we were not focused enough. Lyon truly deserved their achievement. We will have to take a look at this game if we want to improve in the future. We didn't try, didn't dare enough. I think we were not in the best shape, not physically but mentally.
