FC Dynamo Kyiv have moved to strengthen in defence ahead of their UEFA Champions League group stage campaign after taking Georgian international Malkhaz Asatiani on loan from FC Lokomotiv Moskva until the end of 2008.
Semin reunion
The Ukrainian side have the option to sign the 27-year-old centre-back – who Dynamo coach Yuri Semin brought to Lokomotiv in his time at the club – on a permanent basis at the end of the year. Asatiani moved to the Railwaymen in 2003 after four seasons with FC Torpedo Kutaisi in his homeland, where he played as a forward. On his arrival in Moscow, Semin converted him into a defender and he was part of the side that won the Premier-Liga in 2004 and Russian Super Cup a year later, playing a total of 89 league games. Asatiani been capped 33 times by Georgia and joins a Dynamo squad that will face Arsenal FC, FC Porto and Fenerbahçe SK in Group G.
