Early breakthrough
The Turkish giants travelled to Hungary in confident mood following their 2-0 home success last Wednesday and they carried on where they left off when Kazım Kazım's pass found Semih, who converted from three metres out with just five minutes on the clock. The hosts carved out some minor chances after that, but it was Fenerbahçe who struck the evening's second goal when Semih lobbed Zoltán Végh from just outside the area a minute after the hour mark.
Damage increased
MTK began leaving even more spaces in midfield as they went in search of a consolation and they found themselves 3-0 down just five minutes later when Emre Belözoğlu fired in from the spot following László Zsidai's handball. The damage increased in the 79th minute when Roberto Carlos's deflected effort helped Semih get his hat-trick, and the Turkish international striker rounded off an excellent night's work a minute later from a Burak Yılmaz cross.
