Benítez disappointed
The 21-year-old has been in Liverpool's ranks since joining from CA Lanús in 2007 but his first-team opportunities have been limited by persistent problems with passports and work permits. Liverpool decided to loan him to Olympiacos after he was refused a work permit for the upcoming season, with coach Rafael Benítez saying: "I am disappointed and it was a surprise because this is a player who has played in the [UEFA] Champions League and been in the Argentina squad for the Olympic Games."
Ready to play
The player is now looking forward to a two-season spell with the Greek champions, saying: "Olympiacos represents a challenge for me. I know that I will be here for two years. I have been in pre-season training with Liverpool for two weeks and I believe I will be ready to do whatever is asked of me." Olympiacos meet the winner of the tie between Anorthosis Famagusta FC and SK Rapid Wien in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round on 12/13 and 26/27 August.
