Ribéry to undergo second operation

FC Bayern München winger Franck Ribéry faces more surgery on the ankle he dislocated during UEFA EURO 2008™ and is a doubt for the start of the group stage.

The 25-year-old damaged ligaments in his left ankle early in France's 2-0 loss to Italy in Zurich and was operated upon two days later. This latest procedure is to remove a screw inserted during the initial treatment. Ribéry is not expected to be fit until "early or mid-September" according to Bayern. The German champions, who also have Luca Toni, Tim Borowski and Hans-Jörg Butt recovering from more minor ailments, begin their group-stage challenge on 16/17 September. Before that, Jürgen Klinsmann's men start their Bundesliga title defence against Hamburger SV on 15 August.
