FC Internazionale Milano have signed midfielder Sulley Muntari from Portsmouth FC for a reported fee of €14m, with the Ghanaian international penning a five-year deal with the Italian champions.

'Very grateful'
Muntari, who will turn 24 next month, arrived in Milan on Friday morning and passed a medical before signing his contract. "You have to listen when certain clubs call you," he said. "I will always have good memories of the Premier League and the English fans, and I'm very grateful to [Portsmouth coach] Harry Redknapp who was like a father to me, but in the past I lost the opportunity to play for a big club like Manchester United [FC] and this time I want to take my chance."

Italian return
Muntari played five seasons in Italy with Udinese Calcio between 2002 and 2007 before leaving for Portsmouth. The midfielder played 29 Premier League games in his sole year at Fratton Park scoring four goals and helping the south-coast club win the FA Cup. Inter will begin their 2008/09 UEFA Champions League campaign in the group stage which starts in September.
