Prolific season
The Dragons have laid out €5.5m for 50 per cent of the playing rights of the 22-year-old who has not actually played for Rentistas, spending the last three seasons in Japan. Groomed at SC Corinthians Alagoano, the left-footed forward played in Portuguese side Vilanovense FC's youth team before moving back to Brazil. However, he soon joined Japanese club Kawasaki Frontale on loan in 2005. Hulk's breakthrough, though, came at Tokyo Verdy 1969 two years later, where he scored 37 goals in 43 games. He joins Porto's other signings this summer – Cristian Săpunaru and Freddy Guarín – as the Portuguese title-holders prepare to play in the 2008/09 UEFA Champions League group stage.
