Sir Alex savours tenth title

After seeing Manchester United FC clinch the English title, manager Sir Alex Ferguson said his side would be "bouncing" into the UEFA Champions League final.

After seeing his side hold off Chelsea FC to clinch the tenth Premier League title of his 22-year reign, Manchester United FC manager Sir Alex Ferguson said the triumph was the perfect springboard into the UEFA Champions League final when they will again try to get the better of the same opponents.

Last-day permutations
United started the last match of the season at Wigan Athletic FC on the same points as Chelsea but knowing that a victory would almost certainly be good enough to seal the championship because of their superior goal difference. Goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, his 31st league strike of the season, and substitute Ryan Giggs gave them that win while the London side could only draw at home with Bolton Wanderers FC. "If we'd lost the title it would have been a great knock but we are bouncing into the Champions League final," Sir Alex said.

Liverpool record
"I said before the game that I am not bothered about records," the 66-year-old added. "This is what it is about - championships and trophies." The Scotsman went on to say he thought his current group of players could win another title and equal Liverpool FC's English record of 18 top-flight championships. "I think it will come. This side's young – it's developing all the time. It's a good young team and there are plenty of years left in them. They'll do it in their own time."

Giggs landmarks
Giggs, who has won all ten of the championships in Sir Alex's tenure, said: "I think we have deserved to win the title this season. Trophies mean a lot to me." The 34-year-old also equalled Sir Bobby Charlton's record of 758 appearances for the Red Devils after coming on against Wigan and led the post-match celebrations, lifting the Premier League trophy. Now, though, he says the players' focus will be on their 21 May meeting with Chelsea at the Luzhniki Stadium. "Next week we'll be ready for Moscow," he said. "We need to make the most of the occasion as they don't come around very often and hopefully we'll win the Champions League."
