Germany forward Gerald Asamoah has ended speculation about a move from Gelsenkirchen by signing a new three-year deal with FC Schalke 04.
Crowd favourite
The 29-year-old's contract was due to expire in the summer but he will now remain at the Arena AufSchalke until 2011. "He is a real favourite with the crowd here and one of our key players," said general manager Andreas Müller. "On and off the pitch, he epitomises the virtues that make Schalke a great club." Signed from Hannover 96 in 1999, Asamoah has made 228 Bundesliga appearances for the Royal Blues, scoring 38 goals. "Schalke is my club," said the 43-times capped Asamoah. "I feel at home here with my family and want to end my career here." Schalke play FC Porto in the UEFA Champions League first knockout round.
