Ruud van Nistelrooy has signed a two-year contract extension with Primera División leaders Real Madrid CF.
'Very happy'
The 31-year-old striker, who arrived in the Spanish capital from Manchester United FC in 2006, will now remain at the Santiago Bernabéu until 2010. "It's a marvellous day. I feel very happy," said Van Nistelrooy. "I love the philosophy of this club and I'm delighted to continue here for two more years. It's fantastic just as much for me as it is for my family."
Championship triumph
In his first campaign in Spain, the Dutch international scored 25 goals to earn the Pichichi award as the league's top goalscorer and inspire Real Madrid to the title under Fabio Capello. Van Nistelrooy's nine goals this season have helped Los Merengues to the top of the standings again, seven points clear of FC Barcelona. Madrid face AS Roma in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League next month, when Van Nistelrooy will look to add to his four strikes in the competition.
