Having helped inspire FC Barcelona to a 3-1 victory against VfB Stuttart as the suspended Frank Rijkaard looked on from the Camp Nou stands, assistant coach Johan Neeskens was content with the side's work as they ended Group E four points clear of fellow qualifiers Olympique Lyonnais. Rangers FC had already denied Stuttgart a UEFA Cup spot, much to the chagrin of their coach Armin Veh.
Johan Neeskens, Barcelona assistant coach
We saw a performance we can be happy with, we achieved what we wanted which was winning, 3-1, at home. It was a pity about the early goal but we created lots of chances after that so we're happy. Ronaldinho was an important player, scoring a goal and motivating the team. It was also good to have Giovani [Dos Santos] back in the starting XI, he scored the first goal and was impressive. We can be drawn against good teams in the next round but I don't have any preferences so we will see what happens at the draw.
Armin Veh, Stuttgart coach
Taking our circumstances into account, we played well. It helped to score the early goal but Barcelona had lots of chances after that and our goalkeeper did well to keep them out. They deserved to win tonight. We wanted to qualify for the next round but we've had lots of injuries which have held us back. Barcelona and Lyon were the better sides but we could have finished third as we're better than Rangers. The good thing is that we're a young team and we're growing. The Bundesliga has great teams in it and everyone wants to qualify for the Champions League but we'll do our best to be back next season.
