Rosenberg laments Bremen defending

Werder Bremen striker Markus Rosenberg admitted the Bundesliga side were defeated by a "more effective" team as Olympiacos CFP clinched their place in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League with a 3-0 win in Piraeus.

'Ridiculous goals'
Swedish international Rosenberg endured a frustrating evening against a committed defensive display from the Greek champions, whose victory completed a home and away double over the Germans following a 3-1 success on Matchday 2. "We were the better team in both matches but they proved to be more effective and took their chances," Rosenberg said. "We controlled the game but we let them score ridiculous goals. It was very frustrating for us."

Rosenberg said the intense atmosphere generated by the home crowd will ensure a tough match for the team drawn to face Olympiacos in the first knockout round. "Olympiacos are a tough team to play against, especially in Athens," said the 25-year-old. "The crowd really helped them today and it was really difficult for us. They are a good team but I don't think they'll get far in the tournament.

"Having said that I think Greek football has developed a lot in the past few years and it's not going to be easy for any team to come here and face them in Athens," he continued. Rosenberg now believes the key to success for Panagiotis Lemonis' men will be how they perform away from the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium, saying: "Olympiacos will need to be stronger away from home if they want to advance from the next round." Although Bremen are out of the UEFA Champions League their season in European competition will continue in the UEFA Cup Round of 32 with Thomas Schaaf's men having secured third place in Group C.
