Netherlands international Ibrahim Afellay has added another year to his contract at PSV Eindhoven, committing to the club he joined aged nine until summer 2011.
'Key player'
Though hampered by injury problems, the 21-year-old winger has become a first-choice at the PSV Stadion after breaking into the first team in the second half of the 2003/04 campaign. He made 27 appearances as the club retained their Eredivisie title last term, and was rewarded for his consistent form with his international debut against Slovenia on 28 March. A broken toe has limited him this term though PSV general manager Jan Reker was keen to secure his services for another year. "PSV are absolutely delighted about the extension," he said. "Afellay is a key player and he is going to make an even greater impact during the next few seasons. This is great news for PSV." PSV are at home against FC Internazionale Milano in their final UEFA Champions League Group G game on 12 December, needing a win - coupled with a draw or a defeat for Fenerbahçe SK at home against PFC CSKA Moskva - to reach the last 16.
