The bitter pill of PSV Eindhoven's UEFA Champions League exit has been sweetened by the news that goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes has signed a contract extension committing him to the club until 2013.
Decision time
The 26-year-old Brazilian international has lengthened his contract by two seasons, despite the disappointment of Wednesday's defeat by FC Internazionale Milano which confirmed PSV's place in the UEFA Cup rather than in the UEFA Champions League knockout rounds.
Statement of intent
"By securing the services of a key player, PSV wish to give a clear signal of their ambitions," said a club statement. Gomes has been ever-present for the Dutch title-holders this term, his fourth at the PSV Stadion following his arrival from Cruzeiro EC. In all, he has made 108 Eredivisie appearances. This season has also seen fresh deals for captain Timmy Simons, defender Carlos Salcido and forward Ibrahim Afellay.
