Beşiktaş JK midfielder Matías Delgado said "if we play like this no one can stop us" after the Turkish side earned a 2-1 win against Liverpool FC on Wednesday.
'We are a good team'
The Istanbul side picked up their first points in the section at the expense of misfiring Liverpool and the Argentinian felt that they had set out their stall for the remainder of the campaign. "We knew we had to beat Liverpool and tonight we showed everybody we are a good team," he said. "If we play like this this no one can stop us. From here on in, every game is a final for us."
Deflected goal
Beşiktaş had failed to score in their previous two Group A fixtures but finally broke their duck after 13 minutes as Serdar Özkan's shot deflected in off Sami Hyypiä. The 20-year-old goalscorer was delighted to give credit to his coach afterwards, saying: "We are very happy now. After the first goal I made a significant gesture to Ertuğrul Sağlam who gave me a chance in this squad."
Extraordinary fans
Meanwhile, Edouard Cissé spared a word for the crowd at the Inönü Stadium who kept up the pressure on Liverpool throughout the match and helped Beşiktaş stay focused. "It wasn't an easy victory but our supporters didn't let up for a second in the game and they helped us a lot," the French midfielder said. "I can safely say that I have never come across fans like these before anywhere."
At the bottom
Liverpool have yet to win a game in the section and are now two points adrift of Beşiktaş at the bottom, but despite a less than edifying performance in Istanbul, midfielder Ryan Babel was not giving up hope of reaching the knockout stage again. "We still have a chance to qualify for the next round," he said. "We play our next two games at home and we can achieve it."
Anfield rematch
That next home game is the return against Beşiktaş and Turkish international defender Gökhan Zan expects a tough test for his side. "There's no doubt the game on 6 November will be different," he said. "It will be harder for us, but we can play differently at Anfield. If we can take a point from that away game, our work will be a lot easier."
