FC Dynamo Kyiv coach József Szabó was bemused as to how his side lost 2-1 against FC Sporting Clube de Portugal after dominating for long spells and creating numerous chances at the NSC Olympiyskiy Stadium. First-half goals from Tonel and Anderson Polga, however, proved enough to give Sporting what coach Paolo Bento described as an "important" victory with the Portuguese side picking up their first points in Group F.

József Szabó, Dynamo coach
If we can't win this game, I don’t know what game we can win because we attacked, we created chances and then we conceded a goal out of the blue. We played well, I think, except for some players. We had pace, we had creativity, we made a lot of chances and we could have scored five or six goals. I cannot remember Sporting creating any chances on their own in front of our goal, it was always our massive mistakes. We developed a plan to play Sporting, we switched the ball from one flank to the other and had some nice quick attacks, but things did not go our way. Despite all the mistakes I liked the game, especially the first half. Before the match we discussed whether we should play defensively and sit back and wait, but that is not my type of football so we opted to attack. I believe the lads are improving at the moment, but I was sure we would win tonight.

Paulo Bento, Sporting coach
It was an important victory in an important match. I'm satisfied with the result and especially with the commitment of my players and their approach to this game. We had some problems as we were too relaxed after we scored, especially after the first goal when we allowed Dynamo to play freely in our area. But I can also say we were unlucky in some moments and we could have easily won 3-1. It was not an easy victory. We played a good team that caused us a lot problems.
