Arsène Wenger believes Arsenal FC "look more mature tactically" than a year ago after continuing their superb start to the season with an impressive 3-0 success against Sevilla FC in front of a sell-out crowd in north London. The Frenchman praised the fans - he hopes to be playing in front of 100,000 of them one day - and the spirit of the team, while opposite number Juande Ramos spoke of the demanding nature of UEFA Champions League football.
Arsène Wenger, Arsenal manager
Overall I am very happy with the spirit, our display, and tonight we played against a very good side. We were maybe a little bit lucky on the first goal but overall in the second half I thought we controlled the game well up to 2-0. We looked like never really being under threat in the second half. Maybe 3-0 is a little bit harsh for Sevilla and a little bit flattering, you know? But it is like that when you are 2-0 up with five minutes to go, you know Sevilla have to come out and you have a chance to score a third goal. We didn't concede and we looked more mature tactically than one year ago. We have to keep our feet on the ground and believe we can improve in a lot of areas, we lost balls we shouldn't have lost, we were defensively not clean enough once or twice, so we can improve in all areas - but there is a real spirit in the team and that's fantastic to see. I always said I am amazed by the dimension and support of this club. We are happy to have such a support. We want more support, more fans; I hope one day the managers and the next board will extend this stadium and build 100,000 on the roof!
Juande Ramos, Sevilla coach
We lost because the team we were up against were superior on the night. Although we dominated and got to their area easily enough, we couldn't take advantage. The Arsenal defence stopped us getting through. We are now playing in a much more demanding competition than in previous seasons. We were very unlucky with the first goal and the third one was the result of a defensive error. But this is what happens when you play top-quality opposition - you can't afford to make mistakes.
