Werder Bremen will go in search of their first points in UEFA Champions League Group C next week without captain Frank Baumann as the defender needs around six weeks to overcome a partial ligament tear in his left knee.

Rehabilitation
The 31-year-old was injured during Saturday's fine 4-1 victory against champions VfB Stuttgart, yet still played a full match as Bremen climbed to eighth place in the Bundesliga. Speaking after medical tests today, Baumann said: "It's the same kind of injury that Tim Borowski had before. I cannot move the leg in the first week, after which I can start a light rehabilitation programme. I'll probably be out for six weeks."

Madrid loss
Having lost their opening UEFA Champions League group-stage game 2-1 at Real Madrid CF last week, Bremen will be hoping for improved fortunes during their home fixtures against Olympiacos CFP, next Wednesday, and S.S. Lazio on 24 October.
