High hopes
The 25-year-old passed a medical at Stamford Bridge today before finalising his switch after three seasons with the Dutch giants. He will provide competition for established Chelsea centre-backs John Terry, currently sidelined through injury, and Ricardo Carvalho, along with summer signing Tal Ben Haim. "I hope to do a good job at this wonderful club," Alex said. "I am happy for the opportunity Chelsea have given me." Alex began his career with Santos FC in his homeland and has played 14 times for his country, most recently with six appearances at the 2007 Copa América.
