Debut wait
Former Scottish Under-21 international Whittaker, who had also attracted interest from English Premier League sides Middlesbrough FC and Blackburn Rovers FC, made 173 appearances for Hibernian and becomes manager Walter Smith's tenth signing of the summer. However, the 23-year-old will have to wait to make his debut for his new club as he is suspended for Rangers's opening Scottish Premier League fixture away to Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC on Saturday and is also ineligible for the away leg of their UEFA Champions League second qualifying round tie against FK Zeta next Tuesday. Rangers defeated the Montenegrin champions 2-0 at Ibrox last night.
