Tampere United 1-0 PFC Levski Sofia
Tomi Petrescu struck to hand the Finnish champions victory against last season's group stage contenders.
Article body
PFC Levski Sofia's bid to reach the UEFA Champions League group stage for the second straight year suffered a blow as they lost the first leg of their second qualifying round tie at Finnish title-holders Tampere United.
Early winner
Tampere took the game to their opponents from the start after a day of torrential rain and struck on 16 minutes. Antti Hynynen intercepted a pass from the visiting defence and crossed for Tomi Petrescu to touch the ball in at the far post. Although Levski pushed forward as the game progressed, they were unable to turn their domination into goalscoring chances and will need to overturn a deficit in the second leg next Tuesday in Sofia against a side who only progressed for the first time in the competition after defeating San Marino's S.S. Murata in the opening round.
